Immigration

Every visitor entering Malaysia must possess a valid national Passport or recognised Travel Document valid for travel to Malaysia. The documents shall be valid for more than six (6) months from the date of entry into Malaysia.

Both Sabah and Sarawak retain a certain degree of state-level control of their borders. Every visitor must go through passport control and have their passport stamped on the following occasions:

  • Arriving in Sabah or Sarawak from Peninsular Malaysia or Labuan.
  • Exiting Sabah or Sarawak on the way to Peninsular Malaysia or Labuan.
  • Travelling between Sabah and Sarawak.

Visa requirement

Every visitor who requires a Visa to enter Malaysia must apply and obtain a Visa in advance at the Malaysian Representative Office before entering the country. A visa is an endorsement in a passport or other recognised travel document of foreigner indicating that the holder has applied for permission to enter Malaysia and that permission has been granted.

For the countries marked as ( * ) are allowed to enter Malaysia by air only.
Israel citizen** who wish to enter are required Visa and approval from Ministry Of Home Affairs, Malaysia..
Visa is not required for a stay of less than one (1) month for ASEAN nationals except Myanmar. Visas are required for duration of stay exceeds (1) month except for Brunei and Singapore nationals.

Effective from December 1, 2023, citizens of China and India will enjoy visa-free entry to Malaysia for up to 30 days, with this privilege extending until December 31, 2024. However, they must complete the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC), an online pre-arrival form that can be filled out up to three days before the scheduled arrival in Malaysia. Travelers are required to present both a valid passport and a completed MDAC to border officers for validation before proceeding through the immigration counter. Arrival/Departure Card (IMM.26)

A visitor is required to complete the Arrival/Departure Card (Imm.26) upon arrival at the gazette entry points. This card is obtainable at any entry point, Malaysian Representative office abroad or travel agencies.

A visitor must present his/her passport together with the duly completed arrival/departure card to the Immigration officer on duty and he/she must ensure that the passport or travel document is endorsed with the appropriate pass before leaving the immigration counter.
